Grammar Class.

Grammar Class. (First group that taught grammar).

Hello!
I am going to write about the grammar class that was developed on wednesday by teacher Paola, Lidia and Saraí, they explained how students can use “she is… he is… they are… who is she?... who is he?... who are they?...” using family members as vocabulary. First, in my opinion, I really loved the teaching materials that they used in the class because that gets the attention of the student, and I want to congratulate them for the dedication and patience to do all material, as well as, I liked the way that the teacher explained the warm up and presentation stage because the activities were creative and she modeled the activities to be easy to understand in a better way, the song was a good idea, so that, makes the grammar or vocabulary easier to learn. Moreover, I think those activities developed in practice stage were very appropriated for the grammar class such as "putting together the sentences correctly" that activity involved all students equally, to be honest, I enjoyed their activities; they did a good job in addition to being the first group to teach grammar.

To talk about another point, I think there are always some details to improve, in this case the instructions were not very clear and in general we need to improve this because some students get distracted or did not pay attention to instructions, and that is a problem that affects us as teachers, an example to improve this is say the instructions clearly  before giving the material. Also, we as teachers must involve all students in general, perhaps without realizing it we can exclude some of our students, but they can feel a little bad, so we have to be very careful in that aspect to achieve a comfortable class for everyone, even for us.

I would improve only one thing, monitor more students to ensure that they are working because in the class that was a little careless and as I said before, for students it is easy to get distracted if we are not careful about monitor during the activities. Also, talking about other thing that I think is very important for all the groups that are still missing to pass is that when the students want to go to the bathroom, we have to be a little cautious, avoiding in that way some misunderstanding (because it is important to remember that anything can happen and it is better to avoid things in time), but what can we do?... in at some point in the class we can give a couple of minutes for students to go out and in groups go to the bathroom or drink water if they want or have some necessity because with a misunderstanding we would end up injured and we do not want that to happen, we want to enjoy our practices and have a good experience.

Returning to the class, I think that they can be good teachers if they improve those little details.

Good job!

  1. I agree with you regarding the points you have written. I really liked that they used a lot of striking material. Also, I see that the activities that were developed were very appropriate for the grammar class, such as "arm the sentences correctly". On the other hand, I agree that the instructions must be given before giving the material. Also with the theme of the bathroom, I think we should give them a few minutes before the class begins because when they leave the class stops, and the students can not understand the class because they are disconnected from their learning environment. Thank you very much for explaining the class in such detail, I really liked it.

  2. I want to congratulate Karla because your spelling is quite good, I like how your order your ideas giving the good and bad things, breaking them down one by one. honestly i did not attend to the wenesday class but a i have realized that the bulk have commented about that day. so i have read rather good thing and of course things to improve, you mentioned that in the class they were patiente, they were modeling even they sang a song with which i can imagine the class perfectly how was the development of it while our classmates were performing their parts, and it is striking the material that you mentioned that were used in the class something which it is not of all us. having the time, the dedication to prepare material for a class is not something that we can do from overnight and deserves to be recognized by us. even though they seemed to have performed an excellent class, there are some thing which karla commented such as; the misunderstanding of some students when our classmates get them do an activity but we cannot be rude with our classmates, it was the first Grammar class and even for me it is a challenge to be in front with other skills so cannot be hard with them there were other little things, but I am pretty sure they have learn and will find out how to avoid them for next class.

    Excellent job Karla!!

  3. Hi karla ! I totally agree with you karla, I loved the decoration they absolutely did an excellent job when they make the material . One of the things that I personally liked about this group that took into account that before submitting an activity we have to model it , i think that when we modeling the activity before It is easier for children to understand what we want them to do and therefore, they understand the indications faster. Also, they did a good job monitoring the activities that the children were doing . In the part where you talk about the exclusion of students, I agree with your point but you also have to take into account that while that activity was taking place there were students outside the classroom that game against because at the time they joined the class the activity was already advanced and although they were incorporated they were somewhat lost, I think that is another challenge for the teachers in charge of the class have to be more aware of the students for me that is a good point to take into account.

  4. Hello Karla, good job, I really enjoyed reading your blog, now I want to tell you that I'm agree in almost all the points of your blog, they did a very good job teaching grammar to the kids but I want to add the fact that they forget to clarify the difference between "she, he and they" and "is and they" also in a part of the class they did not correct to the students that were distracted when te teacher was giving instruction but something I really love was the fact that every single teacher did an exelent job in others classes when the teacher was infront and developing activities the others teacher help the teacher but this time was different every teacher did it by they own and that's awesome and finally I'm agree the activities were according to the class, thank you for sharing your bkog

  5. Hello Karla! I agree with your comments about the first grammar class. The material that the girls used was very attractive, the tree was colorful and children love colorful materials. Also the activities that Paola used for the warm up and the presentation were according to the children necessities ; giving a review about last class which is very important before teaching a new topic. Also, I think the same about the children that were not paying attention to the instructions that teacher Lidia and Sarai were explaining; according the class is developing they would feel a little bit bored and teachers have to know how to deal with the problem. Anyway the class was great and I loved you post about it.

  6. hello karla I just read your blog and I very much agree with you the class was very beautiful they used material with many colors and that could get the children's attention and as you say they took the necessary time for the materials that were going to to use were adequate and necessary for the class and for the subject they were going to teach. Another thing they did very well was as you say you modeled the activities so that they were easy to understand and the children could do them without any problem the three of them did a very good job.

  7. I totally agree with everything, I just want to comment two things... The first is something you say and that is just right, modeling is everything, kids need the attention of someone because they are sometimes shy and don't want to ask, but if we monitor them it will be way easier to identify these kids that are having troubles and also the fact that we can identify those students who don't want to do anything, and who need to be pushed in order for them to learn.

The second thing is the bathroom thing. It is kind of difficult for us to notice everything, and to act correctly when we have not received any instruction on what to do on these situations, but I guess we just have to be friendly and natural and being careful on what we say and how we say things to the kids when they want to go.

I really liked your blog, blessings

  8. That's true Karla. Whenever we want to present or explain a new activity the best way to do it is by modeling. I could see that children understood quickly the activity after I showed them how to do it. I am going to be honest; I thought that children couldn't be able to understand how the activity went , but suddenly it came to my mind to model it and show them how the game goes. They performed it greatly. Another thing to comment is the about the instructions. Let me tell you that I agree. It sounds much better as you mentioned above that it's a good idea to give the instructiones to children before giving the material or worksheets because some of them started to complete the exercise before the instructions.
